Are you planning a long (multi-day) cycling trip soon? Check out some long distance trips on Komoot. Preparing for this can be quite challenging if you haven’t done it before. Good preparation is essential to avoid surprises along the way. Besides having enough food, there are countless points you may not have thought of yet. There’s nothing worse than realizing halfway through your trip that something is missing. Especially for you, we’ve put together some good advice so you can hit the road without worries! Read on for the necessities for a long bike ride.
Clothing
Depending on your destination and the duration of your trip, it’s wise to research the expected weather forecast in advance. Based on this, you can estimate what you’ll need and avoid bringing unnecessary clothing. During the summer months, you never know what weather to expect, so we always recommend bringing a rain jacket.
Heading into the mountains? Keep in mind that it can be much colder, especially when descending. For these conditions, arm and leg warmers are an ideal solution: you can put them on and take them off as you please, and they take up relatively little space. Saddlebag for emergencies is one of the most important necessities for a long distance bike ride
During your bike ride, anything can happen. You might get a flat tire or something might break. Don’t leave anything to chance and always make sure you’re prepared before you leave. The advice is always to bring a saddlebag containing a spare inner tube, patch kit, CO2 cartridge or bike pump, and a multitool to help you in case of trouble on the road.
Charged phone
A fully charged phone is essential before starting your bike trip. Just think about navigating your route, but also for emergencies or taking photos for memories. Depending on the duration of your ride, it might be a good idea to bring a power bank in case your phone runs out of battery. Don’t forget to charge it beforehand.
Lighting
For safety on the bike, it’s very important to have lights, even during the day. So always bring them along to ensure you’re much safer on the road!
