Cycling in summer, be prepared!

Summer has begun, which means cycling season is here! It’s the time we all eagerly await, but we also need to be a bit cautious. Remember, you’re not the only one hitting the roads, so be mindful of the heat. Here are some tips to get yourself summer-ready:

Stay Hydrated and Fueled

It may seem obvious, but it’s often overlooked. Make sure to carry at least 2 water bottles during your rides, especially if you’re going out for more than 1.5 hours. Eating a bit while riding can also be wise. Your body needs extra fuel and hydration in warm weather, so keep replenishing it in small amounts. This helps maintain your body temperature and prevents bonking under the scorching sun.

Avoid Tourist Hotspots when cycling in summer

With electric cyclists, tourists, and day-trippers crowding the bike paths, it can get overwhelming. To avoid the chaos, steer clear of these areas. This way, everyone has space, and you can enjoy your ride peacefully. Villages and picturesque spots can be real trouble spots for you, so best to avoid them. If your schedule allows, consider riding during weekdays or later in the evening to avoid the crowds.

Pick the Right Time

Speaking of evening rides, summer mornings and evenings offer cooler temperatures and less traffic. Opt for these times to avoid frustration and dehydration during your rides.

Replenish Minerals on Long Rides

For rides lasting more than 2 hours, add an Isostar solution to your water bottle. Sweating leads to a significant loss of essential salts, which your muscles need to function properly, especially in hot weather.

Don’t Overexert Yourself when cycling in summer

It’s tempting to push for new records in the heat, but feeling faint or weaker than usual is a sign to listen to your body. It’s normal to struggle more during warm weather, so avoid pushing yourself too hard.

Dress Appropriately

Choose summer outfits with breathable properties. Many cycling clothes are moisture-wicking and suitable for summer use. Never skimp on a good cycling jersey. A soggy shirt from sweat or a shirt that’s too warm is the last thing you want. We recommend avoiding wool shirts and opting for higher-quality polyester. Did you know that by cycling in custom clothing, you can showcase your logo to up to 100,000 people per year? If you plan on cycling a lot this summer, consider custom clothing to get fit and stand out with your brand in a unique way.
