Lifehacks for cyclists! Do you ever experience hand discomfort while cycling? Or are you sometimes worried about your bike being stolen? Check out TD’s 8 simple lifehacks to make cycling more comfortable for you:
-
Double tape on your handlebars to prevent hand pain
Do you ever experience hand discomfort after cycling? Try wrapping a double layer of tape around your handlebars. Professional cyclists have been using this trick for years to make their rides more comfortable. Or make sure you use the right gloves with good shock-absorbing properties.
-
Padlock through your chain
You’ve probably experienced this before. Quickly stopping for a drink on a terrace. You find a nice spot in the sun and park your bike within sight. But after a while, you realize you need to use the restroom before getting back on the bike. While you waddle to the restroom (because, let’s face it, cycling shoes aren’t meant for graceful walking), you might have thought to yourself, “What if my bike is suddenly gone when I get back?” That’s why it’s handy to carry a small padlock with you. Click this lock through your chain for extra security. This way, no one can ride off with your bike.
-
Baby powder on inner tube to prevent punctures
Do you ever get punctures? Never fun, especially when you see it’s caused by a pinched inner tube. Simply apply some talcum powder to your inner tube. Friction will decrease significantly! Pro tip: make sure there’s some air in your inner tube before putting it back in the outer tire. This will prevent the inner tube from getting pinched and punctured again.
-
Sprint at the end of your ride to burn extra calories
Do you ever do sprints during training? Not only good for muscle development, but also for burning extra calories! Try going for a sprint at the end of your ride. Because when you’re tired, an extra effort burns more energy.
-
Sports drink with sugar + salt is sufficient
You’ve probably seen all kinds of sports drink variants these days, some with crazier ingredients than others. However, you often don’t even need these! It’s usually recommended to look for “power water” for rides longer than an hour. Your body mostly needs salt, fluids, and energy. You can easily make the ideal sports drink yourself for just a few cents. Here’s a recipe for the perfect sports drink:
- Half a teaspoon of salt
- Two tablespoons of sugar
- Fill up with water
-
Stay in a straight line while looking back?
Do you also find it difficult to look back while cycling? Try placing the hand closest to the curb on your thigh. This will prevent you from having to twist your chest too much, keeping you in a straight line while cycling.

Afraid you won’t train tomorrow? Lay out your gear in advance!
You’ve probably had it happen before. You feel great in the evening and plan to go for a ride the next morning. And when morning comes, you think, “Well, I’d rather do something else.” Try laying out your gear the night before! This significantly increases the chance that you’ll end up getting on the bike after all.

Hanging in the drops
Did you know that you simply have 30% less air resistance when you use the drops? Additionally, it also improves your posture and gives you better control over the brakes.
